As dogs age, it is common for their joints to become less flexible which impacts their mobility and quality of life. You may have noticed that your dog has difficulty walking up stairs or jumping on the bed. While he used to be eager to play, now he is content to rest. Even at younger ages some dogs are subject to joint health concerns which affect flexibility and mobility. Recommendation as a Supplement : The Initial Administration Period is 6 Weeks. Most animals should respond within this period. Improvement on Cosequin can range from gradual to dramatic. If the improvement is gradual, it may go unnoticed by the owner. It is therefore important to keep the animal at the initial amount for at least 6 weeks before deciding to discontinue the use of Cosequin. If there is gradual improvement and Cosequin is discontinued, a regression of clinical status can occur. Directions : Initial Administration (6 Weeks) Dogs : 25-49 lb. – 2 capsules daily (1 in A.M./ 1 in P.M.), 50-100 lb. – 3 capsules daily (2 in A.M./ 1 in P.M.), Over 100 lb. – 4 capsules daily (2 in A.M./ 2 in P.M.) Cosequin DS double strength can be used on patients under 25 lb., however, 1/2 capsule increments must be used. For convenience, Cosequin regular strength should be used. Regular strength can also be used for maintenance of dogs weighing 25-49 lb. that maintain below one capsule daily of double strength. The capsules can be pulled apart and the contents sprinkled on the pet’s food. Wet or moist food works best. As an alternative, pets can be pilled or the capsules administered by wrapping in a small piece of food. Cosequin is palatable to dogs, cats and birds.

    Our dog has been on this for about 7 years and has really helped him. He takes it 2x’s a day for his immune-mediated arthritis. Fast shipping and a great value. Thanks

    We were given a bottle of the medication by our veterinarian (for over $100) to help with our dog’s joint problems. It worked really well, but it was next to impossible to get my dog to take these capsules (the reason for four stars instead of five). We cannot give him canned food – he has a sensitive stomach and does not tolerate it. We were thankful when we did a search for this medication and saw it comes in a beef flavored pill (the same name brand, drug, and dose, just a different form). We only bought one bottle of this version of this herbal drug – we buy the beef flavored pills now which my dog gobbles up like a treat.

    This really worked. We tried the brands available in supermarkets and pet stores, but they had little or no effect. Our vet told us that those dosages are too low. She also said that we could purchase the product cheaper online than through her. After taking the higher dose for the recommended time, our nine-year-old Australian Cattle Dog, who couldn’t make it up the stairs at night, was back chasing birds and squirrels, and jumping up trying to “kiss” visitors (have to take the good with the bad). We lowered her to the maintenance dose, and most of the time she does fine. However, after her neighborhood friend comes around, with whom she could literally play on and off all day, she still gets stiff by the evening and we have to up the dose for a couple of days.

    I highly recommend this product.

    My dog has been on Cosequin DS for a few years and we have seem tremendous improvement.
