I have a 7 month old shih-poo. we had a very large flea infestation in our front and back yards and she was already infested when we brought her home. she had TONS of fleas. we bought and used advantix and put it on her, it worked for maybe 2 weeks before she was itching and scratching, the next month it lasted about 3 weeks, after that it worked beautifully. its been about 2 months since her last dose and she still has NO fleas. i love advantix. it just takes time. i understand it works different in different parts of the country, we dont really have ticks here so i cant say the same for ticks but i believe it works wonders for fleas considering the large infestation we had. so if anyone says they tried it once and it didnt work…. ill be honest it doesnt work on the first dose, it takes time probably 2 or 3 if you have a larger dog. but it definitely is worth it.
This is the best product for dogs only because it protects against most all of the important parasites including heartworm. If you buy it at a store or at the vet, just plan on adding 50% to your cost (it might be worth it if you really like your vet).
We have tried K-9 Advantix for our 27 lb. Border Collie Puppy for two months now. Each time only 2-3 weeks past and we’d see him intching and biting himself. I’d take the flea comb to him and literally get dozens of live fleas off. They were healthy active fleas that jumped when combed. I then went to re-applying Advantix every 3 weeks this time. Still, yesterday he was covered in them. Being currently treated two days ago, he still has fleas on him. I really don’t like the thought that he must have them on him so they can bite him to die. He’s miserable. I am constantly cleaning spraying and vacumning his bedding and our floors…….As expensive as this is….IT SHOULD WORK MUCH BETTER!
Since switching to Advantix, I have found NO ticks on my dog. This is a miracle. Using another leading product, I was finding 2-3 ticks on my standard schnauzer daily. Before making the switch, I checked with my vet and also read efficacy studies comparing the product I was currently using to Advantix. The biggest difference I could ascertain was that Advantix REPELS, not just kills ticks. it also repels biting flies and mosquitoes, which the other product did not. There was some question as to whether or not it was waterproof, and Advantix is waterproof. It has stayed effective throughout the month in spite of walks in heavy rain and impromptu swimming. It is nice to come home from a walk in the woods and not have to start pulling ticks off the dog. I’m sticking with Advantix.
We live on a golf course and started to have and infestation of ticks, that just got completely out of control. Nothing we put on the dogs that we bought at Petsmart would do any good. The vet gave us Frontline which failed miserably. I found a study on the comparison of Frontline vs. Advantix and found the Advantix had an efficacy of twice the killing/repelling power of Frontline. We bought Sevin granules for the grass and Sevin dusted the entire house and let it sit for 2 days before vacuuming and cleaning it up. Then we had the dogs groomed down to a buzz cut and put the Advantix on 2 days later and topped it off with a Preventic tick collar (found on Amazon). That was 6 months ago and we found maybe one tick the first week and NONE since. Hope this helps someone else with the same problem.
