This toy offers fantastic mental and physical stimulation for your dog. The dumbbell design creates unpredictable bounces and the integral squeakers maintain the dog’s interest. However, it is not indestructible. The first one we purchased didn’t last the first day as once we were done playing, I made the mistake of allowing the dog to use it as a chew toy, only to later find it in 100 little pieces. Lesson learned: Some toys are great for playing. Others are great for chewing. This does the former better than any other we’ve found and for that reason purchased two more, making sure to put them away when the playing is done.
Note: our dog also loves to play tug-of-war and though the design is great for this purpose, the life of the toy is reduced significantly. For this reason, we purchased a second which allowed us the opportunity to train the dog to sit and drop the toy on the retrieve before throwing the second. Easier on the fingers and on the toy budget.
We bought this a few weeks ago for our destructo-chewer, 18-month-old cattle dog. She loves this toy and will fling it up in the air and then pounce on it, and then chew on it until it squeaks mercilessly. She also likes for us to throw it and she goes after it. We are actually getting another one since she has few toys she has not destroyed. Our beloved pet has been known to chew through “indestructable” toys in less than an hour, so the fact it has lasted this long is amazing, considering how often she plays with it.
My 10 month old Boston Terrier/Pit Bull puppy tore it up.
Day 1: A Great fetch toy and bounced like crazy.
Day 2: No longer squeaked. Still bounced.
Day 6: One end completely chewed off.
Day 8: Only bits and pieces of florecent yellow rubber all over the floor.
Wish it lasted longer. Her other kong toys are over 2 months old and show very little wear and tear.
My golden likes to play tug-of-war instead of giving you the tennis ball to throw. This toy protects our hands a lot!
Stella, our 90 pound Black Labrador, thinks all the Air Kong toys are pretty much the greatest. The dumbbell is no exception. These stay around for a few months. She can destroy an inferior toy in 24 hours. She loves making the Air Kong toys squeak. Human companions should be aware their dogs will likely also enjoy making a little noise.
