I really like the author’s attitude toward small dogs and the way she explains how they see the world. I found the book helpful for working with the 8-year-old Pomeranian I adopted. He is my first small dog, and before I read this book, I made the (apparently common) mistake of thinking that when he barks at bigger dogs, it’s because he thinks he’s a big dog. She points out that no, it’s actually because he KNOWS how small he is, and that he barks because he’s afraid. She also gives advice that was helpful to me about keeping a small dog safe, as well as gentle positive-reinforcement based training advice.
book arrived one week later than promised
email about the book’s whereabouts was NOT answered
My seven pound Pomeranian heartily recommends this book for all small dog owners. Very useful advice, clear directions and humorous ways to see the world as a little dog sees it. I will always think of myself as an eight story building now!
I recommend this book for first time owners of small dogs or dogs in general. I have a 3 lb chihuahua and it has helped me socialize her (being “brave”), learn tricks such as sit, stay, lay down, stop her excessive barking, and being possessive of me. I always recommend this book whenever I go to the dog park. Great book!
I have a 4 month old Papillon and I had VERY high hopes for this book. Unfortunately all the information in this book is very basic and will not necessarily work for every dog. The author did a poor job of expanding topics, especially housetraining…very poor. She teaches readers the “watch me” but my puppy has no interest in following treats, has no interest in sitting…holding the treat over the dog’s nose has not worked once. I just wish this book had more information than it does and frankly I am very surprised it has received such high reviews.
