Being new to dogs, I thought this was slick until I realized it was a copy of the real thing: the Mars Coat King. Although I found nothing wrong with the Oster version, Mars offers more options and replacement blades. With the Coat Kings, you can get versions with 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, and 5mm spacing between the blades, 35mm wide rakes, 70mm double-wide rakes, and even triple-wide rakes (good for horses). When the blades dull, you can easily order replacements. This Oster product has 4mm wide blade spacing and 18 blades. It is practically equivalent to a Mars Coat King #18, which is the same as a double-wide #10. With Mars, you can also get a 30 blade version with 1mm spacing, or a 26 blade version with 0.8mm spacing — there are at least 14 Coat King rakes compared to Oster’s 3. I rate the Oster low because the Coat King is better, offers more options, and has available replacement blades. Amazon affliliates sell a few Coat King rakes, but I did not find the complete line until I looked elsewhere.
This is by far, the best de-shedding tool on the market. It really grabs the hair and extracts it from under the top coat. There is no hard work involved here. All you have to do is guide it, and it really does do all of the work for you. I just wish it hadn’t taken me this long to discover it. It would’ve saved me and my Dyson-Animal hours of vacuum-time…
The other de-shedders that I’ve tried, seemed only to skate over the topcoat, and do a whole bunch of NOTHING else.
If yours is a hairy household, this tool will make your life a whole lot easier.
Works great on my labrador retriever. It is amazing how much undercoat that it gets.
This works better than any other comb I have had for my Sheltie who has much undercoat fur. She hates being combed, but this is a sturdy, easy to use, deep catching rake that pulls out tangles and removes matted under-fur with little problem. Like the construction as it seems it will last, rather than breaking as some of the plastic versions of pet rakes do with severe matted underfur.
We have two shelties and before I found this fur rake we’d spend hours in the spring and fall cleaning up their undercoat when they began shedding. This tool works great. It gets out the undercoat without pulling the top coat fur and it is fast, easy, and doesn’t hurt. Snags and mats can be gently worked out.
