After fighting with my dog, doing some blood-letting because she moved her foot as I cut, and a lot of lashing out, I got this in hopes it would be better. HALLELUJAH!! I followed the directions and by the time I was on the second paw, she seemed to be calmer. A little treat reward and patience paid off … no more blood letting, no more screaming, and now – a year later – she offers her paw to be manicured!! YES, it is slower, YES you have to trim in bursts of 5-7 seconds so it doesn’t get hot, but OH, it’s so peaceful and quiet now. This is one of the best investments I made for my baby!
This item is a waste of money. Fully charged I am able to file two of my dogs nails at best before it runs down. It stops turning if you apply any pressure whatsoever, but won’t file if you don’t.
Had I gone to Amazon originally to buy this, I would not have done it (because I would have had reviews to warn me away). Believe what others have said. It is not powerful enough to trim the nails on a golden retriever, the batteries wear out quickly anyway, and it isn’t even particularly good at filing the nail smooth after you have used something else to actually cut the nails. It’s awkward to hold, the guard makes it difficult to see what you are doing, and if you actually want to do this from different sides of the dog (my dogs do not always stay put when they are getting their nails trimmed), you’re out of luck!
Buy almost anything else. Thanks to Amazon for offering much better choices!
It takes more hand strength than a little old lady with arthritic hands has to hold the cats nail firmly enough. I decided to try an emory board instead!
The product specifically said that it would work for dogs of all sizes. Though it might be effective on tiny dogs with small nails, it was totally useless on our medium-sized dog. By the time I got half way through one of her nails, the sanding disk was done for! I’m going to give this to my grandmother for her Maltese – we’ll see if she can get some use out of it. Take my advice and hang on to your money.
