I purchased this ramp over 1yr ago to use for my large Yamaha 3500 Genset and am happy I did. This ramp is very sturdy and easy to fold and unfold. My large Yamaha genset rolls in and out of my tow vehicle. This ramp makes it a one person job.
Our 90 pound husky just had ACL surgery and I bought this so he could get in and out of the SUV. It is a great ramp, easy to use, very sturdy, a cinch to unfold and very lightweight. The tread is very good and provides for sure footing. We have used it outside over a few steps for him and it has been left outside in the rain overnight. It is plastic, so being outside doesn’t hurt it and the water runs right off it. I am really happy with it.
The PetStep ramp is the best quality pet ramp I was able to find after much research. I had even brought one ramp home, and then returned it because it was poorly designed and constructed. It was the same price as the PetStep. The PetStep model has a rubberized texture on the ramp, which is fantastic. All other models I found had a gritty sandpaper for traction. This was hard on human hands when manuevering the ramp, as well as the pads on the dogs’ feet. The dogs are not the delicate type (3 of them, each 100+ lbs). The ramp is very sturdy which helps the dogs feel secure when using the ramp. No wavy wobbling even for our hefty pups! And… Amazon’s order processing is great. The ramp was delivered very quickly.
This is the first ramp I have ever gotten for our arthritic German Shepherd weighing 90 lbs, so I have nothing to compare it with.
I would say the ONLY negative is that it is a bit heavy, but I am able to get it in and out of the trunk without a problem.
With a few snacks, my dog got this ramp easily. No slipping, I haven’t caught my fingers in it as other people have mentioned. It has a nice rubberized end so it doesn’t slip when you use it at the top of a step.
Today we went in and out of the car without a problem (I practiced at home with snacks for an evening). She obviously never used one before.
It could not support my weight easily (150 lbs) for long, but it’s great for dogs around 100 or so.
It has an easy catch to fold it up and a hand-holding area. I’m glad I spent the money on a good well-made one. It is long and wide enough for any dog or situation that the general public would use I believe.
I got this ramp for my 80#, 8-year-old golden retriever while she was recovering from a leg injury. At first I ran out and bought whatever PetCo had in their store but that ramp was just a joke. My dog did not like walking up their flimsy ramp, which was covered in gritty paper, into my Escape SUV. I got this one from Amazon – at more than twice the price of the PetCo ramp – but am VERY satisfied with my purchase.
You can tell the dog is so much more comfortable on this ramp. I attribute it to the raised rubber slats that go across and the rubber coating. It gives her something to grip her nails in to while she climbs. I also like the strong rubber feet on the underside. The ramp does not move one bit while she’s on it. The other ramp I got had a chincy strap you needed to connect to the vehicle to secure it. It didn’t fit anywhere on my vehicle.
Yes, it is somewhat heavy and bulky but it’s strong and sturdy. After a little bit of practice, my dog was fine going up and down. Now that it’s part of our regular “ride” routine, she runs right up it. Sometimes she doesn’t wait until I’ve put it in place properly, but thanks to those rubber feet, it still doesn’t move.
I know this ramp is expensive, but if you’ve got a large-breed dog who is getting up in years (or one that simply has an injury), and a vehicle that is high off the ground, this ramp is a must-have for your best friend.
