The special properties of the German Shepherd, such as its sensitive skin and digestive system make it a very unusual breed that needs special attention, especially in terms of its food.

I have two German Shepherds and have used Royal Canin German Shepherd food for over two years. Earlier I was not a fan of breed specific products but I am very pleased that I tried this food. This is a good match especially for my adult shepherd. He has the classic shepherd sensitive stomach, but digests the Royal Canin very well. My younger shepherd has just changed from Royal Canin puppy formula to this product without any problem. Both dogs have “glow in the dark” coats and their teeth are kept clean by the big crunchy shape of the kibble. (best fed dry or mixed with a little Eagle Holistic canned food for a bit of moisture) The only supplement I use is a teaspoonful of Seapet fish oil on their morning meal. The older dog is certified in mantrailing…the younger dog in training…so they lead active lives and travel alot. It is good to have a food that keeps both dogs eating and feeling well in stressful situations.

I have 5 dogs. Two beautiful German Shepherds and 3 loving rescue dogs. They all love this food and have benefited from eating it. Our skinny Shepherd has put on weight – finally. And my “itcher” has finally quit itching! Even my rescue dogs have done well with it. And Amazon ships it cheaper than any other website!

Royal Canin has a note on the bag I just purchased…they are *changing ingredients*! They are going to be including pork and wheat. I can’t imagine giving a dog with a sensitive stomach pork. I have a sensitive stomach and I can eat chicken well…but NOT pork. I am very upset about this and have written Royal Canin, but the way the note on the bag looks, the next bag I get will have the pork in it!

Our family includes 4 1/2 German Shepherds (our smallest, the “1/2″ GSD is probably 1/8 GSD but in her mind she’s 100%) and all love the Royal Canin (RC) for GSD’s. It is the only dry food our dogs always enjoy eating. We mix a small amount of raw ground beef in with the RC and they enthusiastically crunch through every bit! We have tried many other brands and they always lose interest, however, the RC is the only dry dog food our dogs never seem to get enough of. Our cats also enjoy stealing nuggets from the dog’s bowls to eat. The only complaint we have is the price. It is becoming more difficult to budget the cost of Royal Canin to feed 5 dogs. As much as I hate to do so, I have been looking for a more affordable brand that our dogs will eat.
