No practice is necessary. Reduces your dogs tugs by up to 90%. Mounted or dismounted in 2 sec. – using no tools. Both your hands are on the handlebar at all times. SPRINGER arm with spring can be mounted on either side of the bike. Fits regular bikes, touring bikes and mountain bikes with the normal triangular shaped frames. Keeps your dog gently, but firmly in place at your side, protected from traffic, pedals, and wheels. The low mounted coil spring absorbs and reduces the dog’s sudden jerks and pulls, making it easier to keep your balance. Safety release frees the dog instantly should it run on the wrong side of a tree, hydrant, pole, or similar obstacle. SPRINGER installs on either side of most standard ladies’ and mens’ bikes, including mountain bikes and touring bikes.Between trips SPRINGER may be mounted or dismounted in two seconds, using only the tip of your finger.

I have had a Springer for three years now and can’t imagine life without it! I have a very athletic Brittany and we do circuits of five to 15 miles on the bike. He loves to pull and generally does all the work for the first 30 minutes. This is the safest way there is to run a dog off a bike. HOWEVER….this product was $49.95 when I bought it three years ago; since then the distributor had changed and it is $79.99 on the [...] website. How this vendor can get away with asking $149 is beyond me! My advice: Shop around.

We’ve had our Springer for over 15 years. This allowed us to execise our high energy bird dog quickly and safely on a daily basis. If you have a dog who needs to run, this is a life saver! Our dog would get to run hard and we were able to cover miles in a matter of minutes. The time it takes to properly set up and learn to use is minimal compared to the benefits.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2MOA8OYU20BIJ A good basic idea but not enough thought went into this design, ESPECIALLY for the price! For one thing the spring won’t hold it’s shape and is not even necessary if you instead use a lead made up of “bungee” cord. (cord is available in all sorts of diameters and tensions) Secondly the arm used on the bike really needs to be attached latterally or horizontally so that it is clamped in two places making it impossible for it to rotate like this contraption wants to! I actually had very good and easy results using scrap aluminum and picking up exsiting mounting point and straping to frame member at a second point. If I finally see something on the market that is well thought out, reliable and priced reasonably, I’ll buy it! Until then it’s “junkyard wars” technology for me! You can get an idea of how to take scrap materials and rig up pulling arm(s) to your bike for little or nothing until something worthwhile comes out! Good luck! And if you come up with something better, post it!

With two Alaskan Malamutes, there is no way I could properly exercise them each day without this product. At a slow pace they can practice proper gait for the show ring and at a faster pace they can burn up some of that extra energy. If you have dogs that love (and were bred) to pull like I do, they can pull to their hearts content. Initially I ran them separately but since the springer allows for switching the unit from one side to the other, I bought a second and now run them together. They enjoy being out together and it saves time.

Although some pictures show using the unit without a leash, I would advise against that. If you have a big dog you need to be able to control it if a rabbit or other critter runs out of the brush. I use a short leash about 3 foot long on each dog.

Also I was not happy with the method of hooking the dogs up. Instead each dog wears a Distance Harness from Howling Dog Mushing Supplies

    [...]

I use a brass double ended bolt snap to hook from the harnesses to the springer.
